Lecthworth Buddhist Vihara celebrated 2011 POSON Poya on 25th June at Lady Haward Memorial Hall, Letchworth Garden City. This memorable event was attended by a large gathering of devotees of the Temple. The celebration started by observing the five precepts administered by Ven.Dediyawala Wimala Thero. Followed by a Dhamma sermon delivered by Ven.Dr.Handupelpola Mahnida Maha Thero (Kingsbury Temple) and ATAVISI POOJAWA was conducted by Ven.Dr.Kabaleva Sirisumana Maha Thero, (Buddha Vihara-Plaistow).
The punnianumodanawa (offering of merits/vote of thanks) was conducted by the President of the Letchworth Buddist Community Center (BCCL) Ven. Nalure Sangha Rathana Thero. The young children sang Bhakti Geethas and ended the celebration with a grand Dhansala (free food stale) organized by the Young Adult Devotees from the Letchworth area.
The Atavisi Budu Poojawa, which was the main feature of this event was attracted by all ages of devotees including the Children. This Poojawa was dedicated for 28 Lord Buddhas who attained the Enlightenment over a period of trillion years of life, in the Universe. Ven. Dr.Kabaleve Sirisuman Maha Thero has given a fine introduction to 'The Atavisi Budu Poojawa' and it’s importance as a great meritorious deed.
In addition to the main Poson Celebration event, a Special Tesatta (73) Gnaana Poojawa was held on the actual full moon day, Wednesday the 15th June2011,at the temple. A group of devotees from Bedford and Stevenage areas initiated and conducted this Poojawa under the auspicious of the Management Committee of the BCCL. Maha Sangha chanted Seth Pirith and ended the program by offering food to all those who attended the event.
The Maha Sangha at the temple and the management committee of the BCCL extend their appreciation with Metha, for all those who contributed financially and the hard work in organizing these two events successfully and made them memorable.
