Resident Monks

• Ven. Dediyawala Wimala Thero. - Chief Incumbent

  Ven. Dediyawala Wimala Thero was a resident monk at Sri Naga Viharaya at Kotte, Sri Lanka in his early ordination and then moved to India.

  He was the Chief Resident Monk at Baranesa, Isipathane Mulagudakyti Vihara for several years and served as the Secretary to Saranath, Budhgaya Sri Lankan Vihara during his latter years in India. Since then he is a resident monk at Platow Buddhist Vihara in London. He is fluent in several languages including Sinhala, English, Hindu and Bengali.

• Ven. Sooriyawewa Kusala Thero - (BA, MA)

  Venerable Sooriyawewa Kusala Thero is currently resident monk at Letchworth Buddhist Vihara. He was born in the South of Sri Lanka, His native village is Sooriyawewa. He was ordained as a Buddhist monk in the Theravada tradition At the Sri Vijaya Sougatha Vidyalaya Piriwena, under the Most Venerable Panadure Wijithananda Maha Thera in 1990.

  He received monastic training and education at Sri Vijaya Sougatha Vidyalaya in Sinhala, Pāli, and Sanskrit. He received his higher ordination (upasampada) in 1999.

  He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Buddhism and Pāli from the University of Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka in 2008. and completed his MA Degree in Buddhism and Pali from the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka in 2009.

  He earned his second MA Degree in Buddhism and Pali from the University of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya, Bangkok, Thailand in 2014. A Sri Lankan by birth he has resided in India and Thailand which enables him to converse in both Hindi and Thai languages.

  He has many experiences about Theravada monastic life and religious activities both in Thai and Sri Lankan traditions. .
