2013 Katina Ceremony was held by The Buddhist Community Centre Letchworth (BCCL) on 19th October at the Free Church Hall, Norton Way, Letchworth Garden City. This year the Katina Poojava was sponsored by Dr. Sri Kantha and Mrs. Chandani Dias and Family, Dr. Yasa Rajapaksa and Family, and Mr. and Mrs. Nimal and Lalitha Dayarathne and Family, with the great support of the management committee and all the other devotees of Vihara.

The ceremonial activity commenced at 7.00a.m. by bringing the Katina Material to the temple, conducting the morning Pooja and offering the morning alms (heeldhane) to venerable monks. Thereafter, several devotees participated in stitching the Katina robe at The Free Church Hall. All the devotees and Rev. Monks joined the Katina Perehera lead by the traditional Sri Lankan Kandian drummers.

The Five Precepts were administered by Ven. Dediyawala Wimala Maha Thero, Chief Incumbent of Letchworth Viharaya followed by a Katinaanisamsa Dhamma sermon in English was delivered by Most Ven.Theldeniye Amitha Thero. from Notingham Shanthi Viharaya. Thereafter, The Buddha pooja was carried out and the mid day alms (dhane) was offered to Maha Sangha. A poetic punniya anumodhanawa (invoking merits) was delivered by Most Ven.Batuwangala Rahula Thero. from Sri Lanka to end the event.

Ven. Monks attended the ceremony were Ven. Thawalama Bandhula Tero, and Ven. Mapalagama Buddhasiri Tero. from London Viharaya, Ven. Matale Vijaywansa Theo. and Waskaduwe Subuthi Thero. from Kingsbury Viharaya, Ven Anuradhapure Piyarathana Thero. and Ven. Pasgoda Piyarathana Thero. from Edmonton Viharaya, Ven. Theldeniye Amitha Thero, from Notingham Shanthi Viharaya, Ven. Kothmale Chandrajothi Thero. and Kohuliyadhe Sridhamma Thero. from Thames Viharaya, Ven. Batuwnagala Rahula Thero. from Sri Lanka and Ven. Mathugama Palitha Thero from Latchworth Viharaya.

The event was well attended by the devotees and friends of the temple. The Maha Snagha of the temple, the committee members of BCCL and the organizers of the Katina wish to extend their appreciation to all those who attended and extending their support for making this event a great success and look forward for their continued support in the future.
