This year the Vesak celebration were organized by The Buddhist Community Center Letchworth (BCCL) on 14th ,17th and 18th May, 2014. Special retreat (Sill programs) were arranged at the temple premises on 14th Vesak Poya Day (full moon day) and 17th Saturday with the guidance of the Chief Incumbent Most Ven. Dediyawal Wimala Thero and the resident monk Most Ven. Mathugama Palitha Thero. The Most Ven. Wimala Thero conducted the Astangha Maha Sill and meditation sessions to the Upasaka, Upasikas (devotees) on both days followed by Dhamma sermons, Dhamma discussions and Buddha Pooja were conducted by Most Ven. Palitha Thero. A large turnout of devotees observed Sill on both days. A special sill program for children was organized from 9.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon on 18th May.

In the afternoon from 3.00 p.m. to 7.00 p.m, on 18th May, 2014 the Vesak Celebration was held at St. Michael’s Church Hall, Letchworth in the presence of special guest Mr. H.M.K. Herath, the first secretary of the Sri Lankan High Commission, London. Most Ven. Wimala Thero observed the five precepts followed by a Dhamma sermon delivered by Most Ven. Palitha Thero. A special talk in English on meditation was delivered by Mr.Simon Boug. Several parents and friends of the BCCL organized a series of devotional songs (Bhakthi Gheetha) sung by adults and children. The main attraction was a display of several beautiful Vesak lanterns built by children. The day ended with a free food stall (dansala) organized and sponsored by the Luton, Dunstable and Welwyn Garden City devotees and friends of the Letchworth Temple.

All the events were well attended by Sri Lankans living in The UK and local residence. The Maha Sangha, The BCCL management committee members and the organizers wish to extend their appreciation to all those who attended the event and extending their support for making the events a great success and look forward for their continued support in the future.
