The traditional “Vass Aradhana" for Venerable Monks to observe Vass season (Retreat for Ven. Monks) was held at 7.00 p.m. on Sunday, 12th July 2014 at the Letchworth Buddhist Temple. This year the ceremonial Vass arhadhana (invitation to the Ven. Monks to observe retreat) was carried out by Mr. & Mrs Nethaji Welikala, Mr. & Mrs. Gayan Hettiarachchi, Mrs. Gayanthi Atulugamage and Mr. & Mrs. Prabath Perera. The invitation was kindly accepted by The Chief incumbent of the Letchworth Temple Ven. Dediyawala Wimala Thero , Ven. Sooriyawawa Kusala Thero and Ven. Wakamulle Uditha Thero. In addition Rev. Matugama Palitha Thero. will be observing Pachchana Vass on Asala Poya day.
The evening Buddha Pooja, chanting of The Dhammachakka Suthrya and invoking merits to all was carried out with the leadership of Ven. Dediyawala Wimala Maha Thero. and the Ven. Monks. Ven. Wakamulle Uditha Thero delivered a sermon highlighting the importance of observing the Vass season. The ceremony was well attended by the devotees and friends of the Letchworth Temple.
During the Vass season the Ven. Monks will be carrying out special evening Pooja and Dhamma sermons every Saturday evening at 6.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. The poojs are sponsored by devotees. The last Pooja will be held on Saturday, 4th October 2014 and the Katina Ceremony will be on Saturday, 11th October, 2014. All are welcome to attend these meritorious services.
