Sooriyawewa Kusala Thera began the celebration   by conducting  the Five Precepts. Children and adults sung, Bhati Geeta and the National Anthum. Twelve year old Dhamma school Child Kavisha Widyarathna delivered a short speech based on the history and the significance of being a sovereign nation for all Sri Lankans.  Ven. Sooriyawewa Kusala Thero., Dr. Himantha Cooray, and Mr. Haris Kodagoda were the other speakers. The celebrations ended with the evening Buddha Pooja, chanting of the Seth Pirith.
