The traditional “Vass Aradhana" for Venerable Monks to observe Vass season (Retreat for Ven. Monks) was held at 7.00 p.m. on Sunday, 12th July 2014 at the Letchworth Buddhist Temple. This year the ceremonial Vass arhadhana (invitation to the Ven. Monks to observe retreat) was carried out by Mr. & Mrs Nethaji Welikala, Mr. & Mrs. Gayan Hettiarachchi, Mrs. Gayanthi Atulugamage and Mr. & Mrs. Prabath Perera. The invitation was kindly accepted by The Chief incumbent of the Letchworth Temple Ven. Dediyawala Wimala Thero , Ven. Sooriyawawa Kusala Thero and Ven. Wakamulle Uditha Thero. In addition Rev. Matugama Palitha Thero. will be observing Pachchana Vass on Asala Poya day.
Annual Vassāna Programme Sponsorship of Buddha Poojā & Dhamma Talk - 9th Aug
The Poson celebration commenced by observing sill (retreat) by devotees on Thursday, 12th June, the full moon poya day and Saturday,14th June at the Letchworth Buddhist Temple. The sill program on both days were guided by the Chief Incumbent Ven. Dediyawala Wimala Thero and the visiting monk from Glasgow Temple Ven. Mathugama Palitha Thero., covering meditation, dhamma sermons, dhamma discussions, Buddha pooja and invoking blessings to all. A large turnout of devotees observed sill on both days.
This year the Vesak celebration were organized by The Buddhist Community Center Letchworth (BCCL) on 14th ,17th and 18th May, 2014. Special retreat (Sill programs) were arranged at the temple premises on 14th Vesak Poya Day (full moon day) and 17th Saturday with the guidance of the Chief Incumbent Most Ven. Dediyawal Wimala Thero and the resident monk Most Ven. Mathugama Palitha Thero. The Most Ven. Wimala Thero conducted the Astangha Maha Sill and meditation sessions to the Upasaka, Upasikas (devotees) on both days followed by Dhamma sermons, Dhamma discussions and Buddha Pooja were conducted by Most Ven. Palitha Thero. A large turnout of devotees observed Sill on both days. A special sill program for children was organized from 9.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon on 18th May.
