Letchworth Buddhist Temple Celebrated 2016 Vesak
The Buddhist Cultural Center Letchworth (BCCL) celebrated the Sinhala and Tamil New Year on 16th April 2016 at The Free Church Hall, Norton Way, Letchworth. The chief guest and the distinguished guest were Mr. Manoj Warnapala the cultural affairs secretary of the Sri Lankan High Commission, representing His Excellency the High Commissioner for Sri Lanka in The United Kingdom and the Leader of the Letchworth District Council, Councilor Mrs. Lynda Needham.
A large group of children from the Dhamma School accompanied by their parents and several families visited the temple to commemorate the 68th Sri Lankan National Independence day celebration. Rev. Sooriyawewa Kusala Thera began the celebration by conducting the Five Precepts. Children and adults sung, Bhati Geeta and the National Anthum. Twelve year old Dhamma school Child Kavisha Widyarathna delivered a short speech based on the history and the significance of being a sovereign nation for all Sri Lankans. Ven. Sooriyawewa Kusala Thero., Dr. Himantha Cooray, and Mr. Haris Kodagoda were the other speakers. The celebrations ended with the evening Buddha Pooja, chanting of the Seth Pirith. The Maha Sangha blessed for a peaceful, prosperous and a united Sri Lanka.
The Letchworth Buddhist Temple carried out the traditional coloring of the Katina Cheewara (Katina Robe) for the second year running with the leadership of Ven. Sooriyawewa Kusala Thero. on Saturday 17th October, 2015 at the temple premises. The main sponsors of the Katina this year are Mr. and Mrs. (Dr.) Dedigama Dharmadasa, Mr. & Mrs. Prasaj de Silva, Mr. & Mrs. Thanuja Gunaratne, Dr. Gihan Herath and Mrs. Sharmali Kodituwakku and their families and friends.
