Letchworth Buddhist Temple Celebrated 2017 Vesak
Letchworth Buddhist temple celebrated Vesak on Saturday 13th May 2017 and on Sunday 14th May 2017. The sil Program (Retreat) was held on Saturday 13th At the temple premises, with the guidance of the Venerable Resident Monks. The day began with the observance of Astangha Seela by Upasaka, Upasikas (devotees) conducted by Ven. Dediyawala Wimala Thero. The chief incumbent of the Letchworth Temple followed by meditation session. Ven. Karputugala Rathanananda Thero from Singapore Sri Lankaramaya Buddhist temple currently visiting the UK delivered a special Dhamma sermon. The Maha Sangha conducted the midday Buddha Pooja. The midday Dhana (Lunch) to Maha Sangha and the devotees who observed Sil was offered by Mr. & Mrs. Tharindu and Harshini, Mr. & Mrs. Yohan and Dharshi, and Mr. & Mrs. Suminda and Manjula and their friends from Bedford.
In the afternoon, Ven. Sooriyawewa Kusala Thero, explained the significance of various Paritta Suttas and all chanted the Girimananda suttas followed by a dhamma discussion on Abhidhamma and ended the sil program at 4.00 p.m. A large turnout of devotees observed Sil.
Vesak Celebration was held at The Settlement Hall, Letchworth Garden City, Letchworth on Sunday 14th May 2017 from 3.00p.m. to 8.00p.m. Ven. Dediyawala Wimala Thero. Conducted the observance of the five precepts followed by a Dhamma sermon in English by Ven.Karputugala Rathanananda Thero for the benefit of the children. The parents and friends of the BCCL organized a series of devotional songs (Bhakthi Geetha) sung by adults and children lead by Mr. Prasaj de Silva. The main attraction was a display of several beautiful Vesak lanterns and Vesak Greeting cards made by children. The day ended with a free Sri Lankan food stall (Dansala) organized and sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Rasika & Chamila Fernando, Mr. and Mrs. Sanjeewa & Thilini Fernando and their family and friends.
The events were well attended by Sri Lankans living in The UK and local residence. The Maha Sangha, The BCCL management committee members and the organizers wish to extend their appreciation to all those who attended the events and extending their support for making the Vesak celebrations a great success.
